Good news: Indian citizens do not require a visa to enter Bhutan. You do, however, need the correct documents and an entry permit — and the process has specific requirements that trip up many first-time visitors. Here’s everything you need to know.
Documents Required
You need either a valid Indian Passport (with at least 6 months validity) or a valid Indian Voter ID card. Aadhar cards are NOT accepted. Driving licences are NOT accepted.
Entry Permit
The Entry Permit is processed at Phuentsholing (for surface entry) or Paro Airport (for air entry). Your tour operator handles this on your behalf. Processing takes 1–3 hours on arrival.
The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)
Indian nationals pay ₹1,200 per person per night as the SDF. This fee is non-negotiable and goes directly to Bhutan’s government for healthcare and education funding.
Why Use a Licensed DMC
Using a licensed DMC like DMC Bhutan Trips means we handle all permit paperwork before your arrival, escort you through the permit process in person, and ensure nothing delays your entry into Bhutan.
