What to Pack for Bhutan: The Complete List

By msdigitalpartner01@gmail.com  ·  11.06.2026  ·  1 min read

Bhutan’s terrain ranges from subtropical valleys to alpine passes above 4,000m — sometimes on the same day. Packing correctly makes a huge difference to your comfort. Here’s the exact list we share with every DMC Bhutan Trips client.

Clothing

Layers are your best friend. Pack: thermal base layer, mid-layer fleece or down jacket, waterproof outer shell, comfortable walking trousers, 1–2 pairs of quick-dry casual trousers, long-sleeve shirts for monastery visits (no sleeveless allowed inside dzongs).

Footwear

Comfortable hiking shoes or trail runners for Tiger’s Nest and any trekking. A pair of casual shoes for town evenings. Pack sandals or slip-ons for guesthouses.

Essentials

High-SPF sunscreen (UV intensity is strong at altitude), lip balm, personal medication, a good torch/headlamp (power cuts are occasional), universal power adapter.

What NOT to Bring

Bhutan has strict rules on plastic bags — they’re banned. Do not bring large quantities of single-use plastics. Drones require special permits and are generally not permitted near dzongs and monasteries.
